The flat daddy/mommy campaign brought to you by the National Guard
Um, this is really bizzare. Daddy or Mommy going off to war? No worries, just substitute the 2 dimensional foam representation of them and everything will be just fine. Really.
Best sarcastic quote today
“The terrorists hate our freedom, so by eliminating the freedom, we can stop the terrorists from hating us.” – Cory Doctorow
How to brew really cheap wine
“This hobo-wine is certainly not for connoisseurs. This is more for those who do not expect quality, but want to try an enjoyable, cheap, and easy educational project.
I think I feel a project comin’ on…
The DIY Altoids Tin Survival Kit
Build a completely functional survival kit that fits into an Altoids cannister. There are several different kinds such as wilderness kit, pocket kit, day kit, or design your own. This is really cool:
Faith based national parks
Another “Bush: Religious Zealot” move. They are allowing the sale of creationist books detailing biblical explanations for natural wonders such as the Grand Canyon in state parks. They are also allowing displays of religious symbols and changing videos that make any mention of gay or abortion rights protests taking place at these places. Wow.
After a little research, it appears the exact text of our first amendment kinda contradicts itself in one sentence: “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof….”.
The first part says the state is not allowed to sanction any one religion which is clearly Bush’s crusade with Christianity. The second part says the state is not allowed to stop any display of religion. Does this include state owned land? Does that mean Muslims and Jews can throw up their Crescent Moons and Stars of David at these parks? I seriously doubt it. This means that the administration is pandering to the second half of that statement while ignoring the first part. It’s selective Constitution enforcement time in the U.S.
Link to Wikipedia site detailing the history of the idea of separation of church and state. A good read!
Thanks once again to Onan for the tip.
Bush is cutting access to research libraries.
In a move dubbed “positively Orwellian”, by PEER Executive Director Jeff Ruch, Bush is ending public access to EPA research materials. This means, for example, that Gov’t research into environmental disasters caused by public companies will no longer be available to the public. GE and Du Pont come to mind…the gov’t can now cover up all the bad things they subject the public too. I’m amazed people aren’t screaming about this.
Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility article.
A list of misdeeds that GE has committed. New information in this list will no longer be public information when this is implemented.
Are you offended? I sure as hell am! I’m writing my senator right after I post this. I hope you do too.
Another father of the year nominee
This guy got real drunk, went driving with his 3 year old daughter and they both passed out, car running, at a stop light. He was so drunk they had to pull him out of the car to wake him up. There’s not a lot I hold sacred in this world but not driving blacked out drunk with a 3 year old in the car is probably pretty high on my list.
Rummy thinks you’re a Nazi appeaser
Don’t agree with the war? Vocal about it? Yes? Well, Rummy is comparing you to the Nazi appeasers before WWII. That’s a pretty big statement coming from a man who acts like he would fit in quite comfortably with the 3rd Reich.
How we should be fighting terrorism. Anti-Terror.
“Another thought experiment: Imagine for a moment that the British government arrested the 23 suspects without fanfare. Imagine that the TSA and its European counterparts didn’t engage in pointless airline-security measures like banning liquids. And imagine that the press didn’t write about it endlessly, and that the politicians didn’t use the event to remind us all how scared we should be. If we’d reacted that way, then the terrorists would have truly failed.
I agree whole-heartedly.
Governator taking on the Feds to grow industrial hemp
“National drug-control policy opposes the legalisation of hemp because it argues that crops could be mixed with marijuana plants and would be very hard to detect.
The feds are so afraid of marijuana that they won’t use a biologically safe alternative to wood based products. The Governator is going to take them on. Well, he’s finally done something I support…
