Amusia: This would devastate my soul
We learned about this on PBS tonight. I’ve played and enjoyed music all my life. I couldn’t imagine.
Amusia refers to a number of disorders which impair music processing such as the inability to recognise musical tones or rhythms or to reproduce them. Amusia can be congenital present at birth or be acquired sometime later in life as from brain damage. The term “amusia” is composed of “a-” + “-musia” which means the lack of music.

Blacklash over tech companies providing for Iran
Following a report last week that Iran is spying on domestic internet users with western-supplied technology, advocacy groups are pressuring federal lawmakers to scrutinize the use of the same technology in the U.S.
Two senators also announced plans to introduce a bill that would bar foreign companies that sell IT technology to Iran from obtaining U.S. government contracts, legislation that is clearly aimed at the two European companies that reportedly sold the equipment to Iran.
For the record, Nokia has denied selling them the technology.

Kid reviews 30 year old Walkman
This made me laugh. It also made me feel old.
It took me three days to figure out that there was another side to the tape. That was not the only naive mistake that I made; I mistook the metal/normal switch on the Walkman for a genre-specific equaliser, but later I discovered that it was in fact used to switch between two different types of cassette.

Recount begins. Large violent protest Sunday.
“As officials began a limited recount of Iran’s disputed presidential ballot on Monday, authorities in Tehran said they had extended by five days their deadline to investigate opposition claims of electoral fraud. The move could postpone the final certification of the ballot, which Iranian leaders insist was fair.
The developments came after protesters returned on Sunday to Tehran’s streets, with the police beating and firing tear gas at several thousand demonstrators who joined a demonstration at a mosque in support of the defeated presidential candidate, Mir Hussein Moussavi.”

“Saaed Mortazavi, an Iranian prosecutor who was responsible for ordering over 100 newspapers closed and dozens of bloggers and journalists arrested, tortured and in some cases, killed, has been empowered to interrogate Iran’s opposition leaders, according to published reports.
Mortazavi’s frightful history has earned him two distinct nicknames: “Butcher of the press” and “torturer of Tehran.”

Dying for Freedom vs. MJ’s Death
I think it’s a sad commentary on what people consider important. Michael may have been a pop-star god on earth…but does it really outweigh people dying for freedom on the relevance scale? Urgh…frustrating…
